TomTom ONE v2 - Great Britain

TomTom ONE v2 Great Britain was launched in Autumn 2006 together with the TomTom ONE Europe. The TomTom ONE comes complete with mapping data for the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.

Building on the success of the TomTom ONE version - the new versions offer affordable, comprehensive navigation for those people new to in-car satellite navigation.

As an entry-level system, the new TomTom ONE boasts a number of features that will make journey's more enjoyable.

As with all other TomTom's, the new ONE is "plug and play" and can be used straight out of the box. The latest TomTom UK maps, courtesy of mapping company NAVTEQ, come pre-installed on SD memory cards for use straight out of the box.

Controlling the TomTom ONE GB is simple using the touch-screen menu system which allows you to quickly find destinations and plan routes ahead of your journey in the comfort of your home or workplace.

In common with the other TomTom's, the ONE GB allows the user to determine how routes are calculated - shortest, quickest, avoiding toll roads and congestion charging areas.

The user can also plan their route based on their desired arrival time. Need to be at your destination for 10.00am? Just tell TomTom ONE and it will calculate the estimated departure time for you.

The unit is housed in a new, sleek design and the bright, sharp screen has an anti-glare coating to aid use in bright sunlight.

Directions and instructions are voice-spoken and the volume of the unit automatically adjusts based on the speed of the car. The louder the car noise - the louder the TomTom unit.

The TomTom ONE comes with Bluetooth capabilities allowing the user to link a Bluetooth compatible mobile phone to their TomTom ONE in order to receive TomTom PLUS services.

This is a subscription service, used in conjunction with a Bluetooth mobile (with GPRS functionality) allowing the system to receive real-time traffic, weather and other information, thus allowing the system to calculate optimum route to destination taking into account conditions en-route.

Also shipped with the new TomTom ONE is TomTom HOME - here's what TomTom have to say about the TomTom HOME software - "the essential tool to keep your TomTom up to date, easily install maps and services, shop for more services, prepare trips, receive free traffic alerts on your computer and much, much more."

All things considered, this is a good system for those taking their first steps in in-car satellite navigation - TomTom are the market-leaders in the UK and the new TomTom ONE GB only serves to reinforce their market position.
