Navman N20
The Navman N20 satnav GPS system was released in the latter part of 2006. The tough, modern N20 case houses a very capable satellite navigation system and the system is ready to go straight out of the box.
The Navman N20 usually comes pre-installed with UK street-level mapping - check the mapping supplied by your vendor prior to purchase. European street level mapping is also available on CD - always ensure you check the mapping provided before buying to avoid disappointment.
The Navman N20 is powered by SiRFstarIII™ Generation 2 technology using SmartST 2005 SE navigation software and Tele Atlas 2006 mapping data.
With the ever-present ongoing research and development in the field of satellite navigation technology Navman have included the latest NavPix techology in the Navman N20. The NavPix technology allows the user to upload pictures of favourite destinations from Navman and other sites. These pictures are encoded with the highly accurate geographical location information (latitude and longitude).
These pictures can be downloaded from the Navman website, taken with certain Navman satnav units which incorporate a digital camera or even search the internet for other websites listing these pictures. You can also upload your own pictures to the Navman website, enter the address/postcode details for that particular picture and the software on the Navman site will encode the longitude and latitude of the destination into the digital information stored with that picture. This then allows the picture to be shared with friends who have their own NavPix-enabled satellite navigation system.
(Note - the N20 does not allow you to take pictures - for this please see the iCN 720 or the iCN 750)
Pictures of favourite destinations can be shared and downloaded from the Navman website. If you are visiting a city, say Paris, you could download geo-tagged pictures of all the places of interest you wished to visit and then use the Navman to navigate to each location. This is a great way to navigate - especially when visiting somewhere new - by browsing geo-tagged pictures you are able to visually identify areas, buildings, tourist attractions etc. that you wish to visit.
In common with the Navman F20 - the Navman N20 comes with "Fuel" and "Park" buttons on the front of the case - allowing the user to quickly and easily locate petrol and car-parking close to their current location. Simply click the button and the Navman N20 will navigate you to the nearest amenity.
Locating destinations is simple - the N20 has postcode search and Back-on-Track capabilities - if the driver should accidentally deviate from the pre-planned route the Navman N20 will automatically calculate a new route based on present position. This is helpful when the user comes across any unknown hold-ups e.g. road works or a traffic accident.
The optional T1 Traffic Pack is also available - this allows the Navman N20 to receive real-time traffic information using the RDS-TMC data format. Any hold-ups or congestion local to the user's current position will be shown and the T1 will advise you of the hold-up and even re-calculate a new route around the problem area.
The Navman N20 comes with an internal rechargeable battery which Navman claim gives 4-5 hours of use between charges. Naturally this power usage will be dependent on ambient operating conditions (reduced battery life in very cold and very hot conditions).
The N20 also comes with a pre-installed safety camera database.
