Navman iCN530
The Navman iCN530 satellite navigation system builds on the success of its predecessor - the Navman iCN 520. The system comes with a bright, clear 3.5-inch TFT colour touch-screen.
Full-postcode search is available for choosing destinations as well as the ability to enter road and town to locate destinations. The use of full postcode look-up is of great benefit when navigating to a rural location.
The iCN-530 comes loaded with UK mapping stored in its flash memory - the system can be used straight-away. Also included with the system is additional mapping for European roads - check what data is included prior to purchase to avoid disappointment. 3D on-screen navigation is standard on the iCN 530. In addition, it is possible to choose 2D mapping, "next turn" indicators or "mini map" view. For a unit of this calibre, the iCN530 comes with voice-guided instructions as standard.
Real-time traffic information is also available - the iCN 530 is compatible with the optional T1 Traffic Information module which is sold separately. Information on traffic delays is received in the RDS-TMC format - this information can then be used to alert the driver to hold ups and congestion local to their current position. This information can then be used to find a route around the hold-up, thereby making the journey less stressful. There is no on-going fee or licence to pay for receiving the RDS-TMS information on the T1 Traffic Pack so this is a valuable addition to the iCN530.
Additional memory can be added to the ICN 530 in the form of SD memory cards and these are available form numerous outlets.
Locating such places as petrol stations, hotels, hospitals, post offices, cash machines etc. is easy. The Navman iCN 530 comes pre-loaded with a large Points of Interest (POI's) database. This allows the user to find identify any number of amenities and then instruct the iCN530 to navigate to the nearest one - running short on fuel - just choose petrol stations and the iCN530 can identify the nearest one and then navigate the user to it.
It is also possible to add your own favourite POI's to the iCN530 by connecting it to a PC.
The menu system is controlled using the touch-screen control and journeys to multiple destinations can be planned in advance. The system comes with an automatic day/night view to avoid eye-strain. Useful "Parking" and "Fuel" buttons are located on the front of the unit to allow the user to quickly locate the nearest car-parking and petrol station.
The iCN 530 also provides on-going journey information - ETA (estimated time of arrival), distance remaining and other useful information is available to the user at the touch of a few buttons.
Utilising Navman's Back-on-Track technology, the system can automatically re-calculate a new route to destination if the user should stray of the pre-planned course - ideal if the user comes across an unknown hold-up - simply turn of the route into a different road and the system will automatically calculate a new route to the chosen destination.
This is a great satellite navigation system representing excellent value for money.
