Garmin StreetPilot C530

Due for release soon to the UK market is the Garmin StreetPilot C530 - this is a medium-priced satnav GPS system from the Garmin StreetPilot C500 range.

The StreetPilot C530 comes ready to use straight out of the box. All maps and software are pre-loaded so there is the minimum amount of installation to be done once you open the box.

Controlling the system is straightforward using the intuitive menu system which in controlled through the touch-sensitive colour screen.

The screen is an automotive-grade non-reflective TFT LCD 2.8 inches wide and 2.1 inches high. Colours are bright and the graphics and maps are sharp and crisp.

The unit has a built-in GPS receiver ensuring the unit is accurate and picking up the satellite signals occurs quickly. No need for an external GPS receiver making the C530 portable and adaptable - switching the StreetPilot C530 between vehicles is simple and straight-forward - allowing a family to share one unit if they so wish. The unit is powered using the integral battery with a battery life of up to 8 hours, depending on usage and conditions.

A new security feature of the Garmin StreetPilot C530 is the Garmin Lock - this requires the entry of a 4 figure PIN number to activate the unit. The unit can also be activated by taking it to a pre-determined location.

Traffic information is available via the optional FM TMC traffic receiver. FM TMC traffic information receiver notifies the user of road congestion, accidents, road works and any weather related delays that might affect the user's journey. Suitable action can then be taken to avoid this congestion once the information and location are known, thereby making the journey smoother and more enjoyable.
