Garmin StreetPilot 2610 satnav GPS systemGarmin StreetPilot 2610

The Garmin StreetPilot 2610 is an excellent satellite navigation system. The StreetPilot 2610 offers everything you would expect from a comprehensive GPS system.

The large colour screen shows the mapping for the driver's locality whilst voice guided turn-by-turn directions are spoken by the StreetPilot 2610.

The StreetPilot 2610 can be controlled by using either the touch-screen menu or the remote control. Planning routes and entering other information has never been more straightforward.

In common with other units it offers turn-by-turn direction routing as well as voice instructions. Should you accidentally drive off track, the StreetPilot 2610 will automatically calculate a new, optimised route to your chosen destination.

The 2610 features a large, easy-to-read screen. The maps are pre-installed and everything needed to download additional map detail and look up points of interest and addresses in seconds is readily to hand.

The unit comes with a USB connection to connect it to a PC. The user can upload new maps and other information direct to a CompactFlash® memory card.

The StreetPilot 2610 now includes a number of new and exclusive software features:

Users can enter a series of destinations, and the StreetPilot 2610 will automatically sort them to provide the most efficient route. This is a great feature for business people, sales professionals and couriers. The time and money that can be saved using this facility will more than pay for the system in no time at all. This feature is also available on the Garmin's sister GPS system - the Quest 2.

Users can also enter areas and roads to avoid when planning routes. This is a very good feature, especially if the user is aware of congestion or hold-ups en-route. This information could be something heard on the radio or seen on TV/Internet prior to starting the journey.

Also included is a Points of Interest (POI) database - this is a large database containing details of such things as hospitals, hotels, petrol stations, cash-machines etc. If the user needs to locate a certain amenity eg. Houses of Parliament or, say, the nearest petrol station, the 2610 will identify the nearest one and quickly calculate the optimum route to get to it.

The 2610 is powered using the external speaker with 12/24-volt adapter cable or A/C power adapter - this allows the StreetPilot 2610 to be transferred easily form one vehicle to another.

The Garmin StreetPilot 2610 is a sophisticated performer and is ideal for anyone who has to do a lot of driving for either work or leisure.

The StreetPilot 2610 has now been discontinued by Garmin - you may be able to find a bargain if you look around. You may also like to consider the Quest 2 which offers similar features and functions to the StreetPilot 2610.
